This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of EXCEL Continuing Education and the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine Pediatric Brain & Spinal Cord Injury Program. EXCEL Continuing Education is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation

EXCEL Continuing Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 16.25 PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Crossroads Counseling Center will be providing a maximum of 16.25 credit hours for nurses, psychologists, family therapists, mental health counselors and social workers. Crossroads Counseling Center is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer CE’s for psychologists. Crossroads Counseling Center maintains responsibility for the program. Crossroads Counseling Center is approved by the Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage, Family Therapists, MH Counseling, BAP497, and the Florida Board of Nursing FBN #3102 to offer continuing education.

This conference is approved for 12 CEH’s by the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, an approved provider of CEH’s for physical therapists and occupational therapists by the APTA.

 
 
The University of Miami is approved by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to provide continuing education activities in speech-language pathology and audiology. This program is offered for 1.6 CEU's (Advanced level: Professional area). ASHA CE Provider approval does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products, or clinical procedures.

All nurses desiring CEUs must sign in every day and turn in Nurses Request for Credit form.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this presentation the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss the basic science mechanisms of pediatric brain and spinal cord injury and how they relate to the management of children recovering from brain injury and other neurological conditions
  2. Analyze the controversies in clinical decision-making in the acute and long-term care of children with acute brain and spinal cord injury
  3. Discuss the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to children with brain and spinal cord injury
  4. Evaluate new strategies aimed at improving outcome from catastrophic brain and spinal cord injury
  5. Discuss present standards and future directions in pediatric neurorehabilitation
  6. Detect the current research priorities in the field of pediatric brain and spinal cord injury
